Jill B. Hamilton, PhD, RN is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her BSN, MSN, and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS in Accounting from North Carolina Central University. Dr. Hamilton’s postdoctoral training in the nursing care of older adults was completed at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Hamilton's research interests include health disparities, social and cultural factors that influence health, and the coping strategies used among older African American cancer survivors. She currently has a 3-year study funded by the National Institutes of Health to evaluate the psychometric properties of a new coping measure for African American cancer survivors. Dr. Hamilton’s publications focus on social support, spirituality, and quality of life among African American cancer survivors. She was a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar from 2003-2007.
