Chaplain Rawlings is Director of Pastoral Services at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to returning to Duke, he served as director of pastoral care at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, director of pastoral care at Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, associate director of pastoral services at Duke University Medical Center, and director of pastoral services, Greenleaf Health System. His clinical training was in general hospital and mental health chaplaincy. He has served as adjunct faculty at Duke Divinity School, faculty of the United Methodist Course of Study, Duke Divinity School, trainer for EPEC (Educating Physicians on End of Life Care), and was a pastor and remains member of the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Jim is certified as a Clinical Pastoral Education supervisor by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. and a fellow in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. His teaching and research interests focus upon the basics of pastoral care, how people of faith think about end of life care, advance care planning, who provides spiritual care, and pastoral care of the addicted person and family.
