This call for papers is seeking paper and poster submissions for the 1st Annual Meeting of the Society for Spirituality, Theology, and Health to be held at the R. David Thomas Executive Conference Center, Duke Fuqua School of Business in Durham, North Carolina. The Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health is the sponsor for this meeting (see information below).
Submissions are encouraged for paper presentations including but not limited to the following themes: challenges in measurement of religion and spirituality, faith communities and health, mindfulness interpreted within traditions of faith and practice, theological considerations of health and human flourishing, and spirituality and practices of caring. Submissions for poster presentations can be in any content area relevant to the study of spirituality, theology, and health.
Graduate Students
Graduate students in relevant disciplines are encouraged to submit papers and posters for presentation. Opportunities for student presentations will be provided in accordance with the quality and number of submissions.
Submission Format
All abstracts, accompanied by applications, for papers and posters should be submitted electronically as downloadable attachments, in Microsoft Word format to Catherine Craver at catherine.craver@duke.edu by January 15, 2008. Authors will be notified of acceptance by February 15, 2008. Questions may be directed to Catherine Craver or to Elizabeth Alford or Kari Lauderback at 919-660-7556.
Paper submissions, not accepted as oral presentations will be considered automatically for poster presentations.
If applicable, accepted oral presenters must submit Power Point presentations or other audiovisual presentation materials for their papers two weeks prior to the conference date, so that they may be uploaded to audiovisual equipment prior to the meeting. Presenters will be expected to bring appropriate handouts. Presentations should be 20 minutes in length.
Submission of an abstract indicates that the individual listed as the presenting author will complete the registration including fee, attend the meeting, and present the paper/poster if the abstract is accepted.
